View original topic: Transaxle shift to second issue after nose cone removal

Hi All,

Here's a strange one.. My bus is modified with a TDI diesel engine and is using an 091 with regeared 3rd and 4th.

We needed to replace the clutch and because removing the engine is an ordeal, we pulled the transaxle instead.

In order to get the transaxle out, with the engine in place, we removed the nose cone. That gave enough room to pull the trans.

Now with everything back together and the clutch adjusted, we can shift into all gears normally except 2nd. 2nd can only be shifted into without the engine running.

If the issue was clutch, then this would be happening in all gears (esp 1st and reverse). If the issue was the transaxle, I'd think it would occur with the engine off too.

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

If your clutch is disengaged it is like your engine is not coupled to it, I'm suspect of your clutch

The issue is that it won't shift into 2nd with the engine running but will shift into other gears... but it will shift into 2nd with the engine off.

If it was the clutch, it wouldn't shift into any gears while running.

If it was the transaxle it wouldn't shift into 2nd even with the engine off.

What am I missing?

Thanks!!

I think his point was that if your clutch is functioning properly the transmission doesn't know whether the motor is running or not.

OK cool guys. I'll mess with the clutch more.

My experience up to now has been when the clutch is not releasing all the way that reverse is the worst to engage, then 1st then the rest. It seems strange that 1st and reverse are OK but 2nd isn't..
