I have a 1972 Bus (transitional so early front late rear).

Anyway it has belly pans and over here in UK we get rust, lots of it and I have to do some welding work which means removal of the belly pans. Questions:

1. How do i remove the belly pans (best method in your opinion)?
2. New belly pans. Has anyone figured out a way of making them removeable for inspection purposes?

Regards,

Dominic

Hi - not sure about pans - my bus has none, but can you tell me what you mean by early front, late rear? I'm trying to ascertain as closely as possible my bus' build date (it must be 72 or early 73 as it has 'new' tail lights, but no inspection cover to the engine bay). The engine specs here in Oz are a little different to those in America and I'm not sur eof what other indicators to look for. Any input here?
Since I havn't seen one, can you describe what how these belly pans fit up (like are you going to have to drill out spot selds or what?) and why they are there (one of my chassis rails has a sizable deformation from coppng a rock at some stage!) How far aft do they extend? If they are slowing your rust repairs (which may well be an intersting topic for another thread), surely they are going to make rust proofing difficult. Can you just get rid of them?
