View original topic: Disconnect Engine Bay Grounds, or Battery Set Off Car Alarm?

Hi all.

PO (deceased) installed a Black Widow keyless entry on my 1988 Westy. It may have a starter defeat and/or alarm feature. Company kindly sent a pdf of manual it's a learning curve right now so....

With car alarm systems, generally speaking

- does disconnecting battery erase presets in alarm computer?

- any chance disconnecting grounds in engine bay (to clean) would set off alarm or worse. (defeat ignition and/or starter)

Seller said no codes needed but given the circumstances I can't be certain of that. It seems there's a ign. on/off procedure along with pushing buttons on receiver to change features but I'm just not clear on it all. It all works right now and I just want to get on with the tune up etc. stuff.

Hope that all makes sense.

Neil.

Sheesh. I must be tired.

I guess if I'm unlocking the Westy to work on it, the alarm is off. Still, am unsure about losing codes and/or somehow cause a no start if I disconnect battery. I'll leave the battery connected, clean the grounds, but disconnect the horn first.... ;)

Neil.
