Hello Samba Gurus,
I have a little problem with my 2.0 Liter 1976 Type II Westy. It has been converted to the 009, electric points, with a Progressive Weber a few years back.
So here is the problem:
At random times (usually going uphill though, after downshifting into a lower gear) the bus will loose power...no bucking or jerking, just loose power, like i turned the bus off or something. While I am still rolling, if I turn key to the off position and then back to the on position, put it in gear, its like nothing happened, she just keeps driving smoothe. If I stop and pull over, I have to let her sit for a minute or two before she'll restart again. I do not loose electricity to the headlights or radio, just loose power. I am thinking that it is either a problem with the fuel pump or the electric points. I thought it was a bad coil, so I replaced that and it did not help.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Matthew |

| Make sure all your connections are good, and try jiggling your key the next time this happens. It sounds like it might be your ignition switch. |

| ignition switch or electronic points. Another really rare possibility is water in the fuel so add a fuel dryer to the fuel to get rid of it. |

| thanks! a buddy of mine thought it might be the ignition switch as well...just don't know why it would tend to cut out more going uphill? oh well, pretty inexpensive part. the electronic points are 7 years old, so maybe time to replace them as well. |

When they get worn out and sloppy enough, any incline, decline, or slightest bump will break the contact, and kaput. I had the same issue with my '91 Passat. It would go out if I sneezed or turned the radio too loud (vibration). |
