View original topic: Are 'what is it worth' posts allowed?

Just thought I would ask! I see them on other forums, some allow, some don't but to me they are always alot of fun. Yea or nay!

Glenn Sun May 06, 2012 5:30 pm

They are, but most are thinly veiled for sale" ads.

So watch the wording.

Yes, we allow it, as long you don't get into it sounded like an ad.

It's definitely ok if it's not something you own, for example:
"I'm interested in this car, what's it worth?"
or
"What does part XYZ go for these days?"

Cool! I am kinda looking for a PreA and I would like some input on this car;

http://porsche356registry.org/classifieds/1-356-cars/5343-for-sale-1954-pre-a.html

I personally don't think it's worth anywhere near 65K, but I am also flexible in that prices move! A's were cheap just 6 months ago, look at them now!

I saw 2 Pre A's sell for around 30K on ebay, so is this one really worth double? Also it's in my country so that adds value for me.

(I also might think differently if I had 70K cash, I only have like 50K).

No way. The 5-10% missing parts is the kicker. LOTS of bodywork to be done. NO MOTOR included! Personally, I don't think I'd touch that at half the price. For $50K you should be able to find something that runs/drives....will need work, but is a known quantity. Especially in this economy.

Jack

Post away Jack or pm me! I am in Canada but I go to California about 10 times a year. Other parts of the US are still accessible to me.

Fire away! :)

No way! He is just fishing at $65k but with so few for sale he might just find a buyer. Supply and demand you know. You can buy a restored one for $100k. I saw one sell at an auction in Phoenix in January. There is another one listed here that has been for sale for over a year but it is incomplete and has an A nose on it I hear. At one time it was $34k but it was $70 last time I looked. If you want a pre A jp you will have to be very very patient and perhaps a bit lucky!

If you are near Mike you might want to go by and look at this one. The more cars you look at the better educated you are. Also, he might change the price later on if he can't sell it at the current price, it would be good to know the facts about the car so you can jump on it if you need to.

He who owns the gold, sets the price!

Yes I am fishing, but the market price of these cars has increased dramatically. Price is always negotiable. If you knew what condition this car was in you would probably ask the same. There is not a lot of body work required on this car, it is in surprisingly very good condition. It is in much better condition than my '52. If you have not personally seen the car why knock the ad, and if you truly are interested in the car come and look, I am open to reasonable bids. We have a serious buyer coming at the end of the month to look, so you may want to come before he does.

Not knocking the car or price Mike. You can't get the $$$ if you don't ask for it. Yes, the price of pre As has gotten steeper lately it seems. I wouldn't be interested in it at anything close to that. Ultimately you would think that project car prices would be dictated by finished/restored car prices. Its funny how sensitive some people are that like to push the bounds of current pricing whether on Ebay or forum classifieds. You'd think you would have have thicker skin! :)

Hi Mike, I wasn't knocking the car, just asking for other people's opinions as I'm new to the PreA game (I have an A). I'm in Edmonton and we're planning on a trip to NY so that's why your car came up in the search.

Mopor; I've always been a little lucky when it comes to cars. :D

Sorry Mike, not really knocking the ad, just giving feedback on the price (which you admit is fishing!). Your car looks like a deal compared to the one in the whines thread! I hope people can get these prices, it certainly does me no harm :-)

Great advice from Unobtanium-Inc to at least take a look at every car in your vicinity!
