So last fall decided to drop my last 1000$ i had on my first car this bug, decide to rebuild it fix it up and keep it on\off roadish for a dayly driver, at first things looked good for a safety till today. While watching a video on wood stock i find myself with my bug somehow working on it finishing my frame which is now done. took some pictures and now look what ive found. (ill so my progression)
-oh so excited its home and kinda, not drivable
-well here we go time to start work, by now i replaced the front axel outside in the cold already. (family divorse and look i get the garage to mself)
-here i was gunna patch but no i just replaced the whole passeger side
-mmmmm yea all done baby time to lift it up to get underneath to clean paint and undercoat it
-now here is what i started to find... so upset at least a half a inch of bondo over the patches which took forever to get to, under the patches more upset.
SO, let me know what you think!!! and some advice would be great i am doing most of this on my own and im only 19!
-Also with the driver side heater channel at the back where all the eletrical is how can i move it? and it run to the back engine compartment thru the foam and all that seems pointless, is there anyway to bring it back into the cab?? |

| Good start. It is better than my 73. Interesting color choices. What is the yellow all over for? (the yellow on the heater channels, wheel archs) |

| Yellow = need to be fixed, kind of an easy way to show what I needed to do when I look back at my photos. |

| Just make sure you pull that rear pully and get the rest of the rear tins on before you run it in the car. Lotta work just to melt your engine. Without proper tins the engine temps skyrocket. Looks like you have a great start on what should be a great car. Take mph2's advise. Take your time and get it right so you dont have to do it again. Good luck! |

pruneman the only tin missing is the ones under the the engine, shouldnt that not matter and allow air to flow from under and past the jugs?
Update on whats going on... well seeing parents divorce is out of control i came down to doing minor stuf, i put everything back together for transporting my bug to the new shop and yes were taking the hoist  For now i just cleaned up my fenders and seen how they would looking, having a paint concept in my head for the longest time... i changed my mind from the original blue and yellow, to a blue, orange, and white with gulf logo. but heres my minor things i've done.
yes.... i may have got it running and putted thru a feild or to, to stay away from the cop shop down the road. busted = lost car and lost license, but ill risk it all for this baby

Couple things - good work on the car. You got some decent skills and you are doing it right. Looking good.
Tins - you need them all. Without the lower tins, your cylinders and heads wont cool properly. Plus the protect your pushrod tubes. I run all the tins on our buggy.
Sorry to hear about the divorce situation - it sucks for the kids and unfortunately a lot of folks really let things get out of control. Emotions take over and logic and what really right and wrong can go out the window. Just do your thing and let them battle it out. |

Make sure to get all the tins on. Vw was not into wasting money and steel just to dress up that engine. Every tin has a job. I ran my 68 on a very short ride to the parts store w/o my rear engine tin and was really supprised how much hotter it got so fast.

| Yea I have the "very" important tins on. And I'll have to find the bottom tins for protection. But guess what I got a free 64 bug mint body. I have pictures to post later when I'm back in Winnipeg (currently in bc) I did a body swap an found some thing out. Hahaha rear mount are lower but my body lift will help adjust that! So pictures soon! Some questions tho guys. In the doors I notice the hole... Speaker? But the window crank wire or whatever is in the way. Is it possible to move that somehow, put curves in it to move it, so I can put a speaker in. Also can Some show me how to wire up the alternator to the battery and what not thats needed on the alternator seeing the body is swapped. Thanks. |

| Have you thought of replacing both heater channels now while you are here. They may be weak on the inside. |

What are you doing for seat mounts? From the pics I can see, looks like you might have the '72 down replacement pans compared to the '73 up you started with.
Nice find on that '64 body! From what you've shown, sure looks like you're going about the rebuild the right way, it will be great to watch it come along. |
