Anybody out there have one of those original military tops from the Thingshop? I've had one on highroller for a few years and the stitching is coming apart. It has been sitting outside...exposed to the elements.
I have not contacted them yet...just wondering if this has been a problem for someone else.

I had the military top for about 4 years when the stitching came apart.I hand re stitched the seams with a nylon thread and 4 years later it is still good.keep in mlnd that these tops are almost 40 years old and are stitched with cotton thread.the top itself is wearing like iron including the window. What I did not like was that the top was shrunk like crazy when I bought it. Wished they warned customersabout that.

One of my Thing buddies had a military top and he had to have it restiched. IHC is correct about the cotton falling apart after 40 years. I had the opportunity to check out one of those tops a couple of years ago. Man!, they are beefy. Seems at least twice as thick as a standard civy top.

Thanks...I considered hand stitching it...the material is still good. Any tips on how to do the knots? I haven't done much sewing...besides buttons. I considered investing in an industrial hand held machine.

I used a curved upholstery needle and went into the existing holes. The nylon thread I found was green and matched the top fairly close. It dosent look perfect but the cost was right. As stated in an earlier post my work is holding up well. I did not want to remove the top and take it in to be stiched, was a pain to do, but removing the top from the header bow is worse.
