View original topic: How much lift is obtained with GW westy springs on GL van?
Torque Junkie Mon May 07, 2012 10:26 pm

I've got an 89 Wolfsburgthat I just bought. I want to get to get some clearence. I accidentally bought the GW westy 2 inch lift springs instead of the 0 lift ones that they recommend. I do have to mention that someone welded in a raised floor for storage during its lifetime. It's made of 1/4 steel plates. I plan on putting a winch and carrying bicycles on the front for our excursions. I was hoping that the extra weight from the steel plating and bicycles will compensate for the vans non westy status. Any thoughts

:bay_blue: If you want lift stay with the 2" . Adding weight to lower it, not a good idea. Your still going to end up with a lift. Sell the springs and get the right ones, or buy a Syncro! :D PS I have a GL van and GW 2" springs and got 2" of lift!

I guess my point didn't come across correctly. I do want the lift. The springs I purchased where the westy ones and aren't recommended for non westy and are supposed to lift it "too much" according to the sales sheet. I was just wondering what "too much" ment and if I'd be in the clear as the vehicle has substantial extra weight.

Too much means kiss any chances of having the van aligned as per spec good bye.

This has been covered numerous times in many threads that speak of "lifting" a van.

As far as I know, GW is releasing a 2wd Fox shock kit within weeks.
For that to work properly, other parts and instructions on how to align the vehicle, SHOULD be included.
We shall see.

What do the Fox shocks have to do with aligning the van correctly, it's the springs that affect that, right?

Sam :bay_blue: OK you should be fine, the difference in a westy and non westy is only a few hundred pounds, sounds like you have that much in the floor! :D

The combination of certain parts keep the van from being aligned within spec.

Thats what I was figuring. I makes a nice storage place though.
