I left the case in a garbage can filled with water/ purple degreaser and now i find this.... Purple ate the metals off the saddles and basically im never going to use purple degreaser again... Align bore is the best way to fix this?
It needs to be align bore anyways because i could see the stamping from the main bearings on the saddle. Correct? |

I might be wrong, but I don't think the acidity levels of Purple Power are high enough to etch magnesium..
I'd think it's more likely that it just removed whatever loose material/dirt/grime was there and allowed you to see the damage clearly.. |

| Has nothing to do with the purple. The water will eat the magnesium. I had a new guy once leave a case in our sonic cleaner over the weekend by accident.....the brand new case looked 40 years old when we removed it. |

| Did you use purple power or super clean? I know for a fact if you don't babysit super clean and wash it with warm water asap it will eat alu/mag like no ones business |

What about the oil relief bores? Oil pump hole? Distributor hole? Did you make sure to flush all that stuff out of the oil galleries after you took it out of the barrel? If not you may still have some in there merrily eating away... |

It says on the bottle "avoid prolonged contact with aluminum and painted surfaces"
I have used it on aluminum but never let it set in. Great stuff |

I agree... :? not trying to sound like a jerk, but this sounds like operator error with a product that did it's job. |

I'd be concerned about the lifter bores as well... Maybe check them before sending out the case for align-bore, you may need to have those bored and sleeved at the same time.
Good luck! |

uh oh
That's very unfortunate, you have learned how easily magnesium corrodes  |

| Greased Lightning will turn a brand new shiny Aluminum case dark gray in 15 minutes. Purple power or Super clean should only be left on a case for a few minutes then fully rinsed off . If you want to make sure the case is totally clean now, Wait till no one is looking and throw in the dishwasher for a cycle . |

| Alkaline soaps such as those should not be used on aluminum or magnesium for long periods. Corrosive stuff... |

| I had read that alkaline wont hurt these cases because it dosent attac mag.but I got to thinken(see the smoke rings) these things(&bugs too) have aluminum in them also(and probably a few other things) that will be affected by the harsh stuff.SO I have never tried to kleen them with any of the typical Iron block&head cleaners. |

You read wrong Tucker
The hot tank here (caustic solution) can dissolve a cam gear in under an hour when at full strength, I never raced an aluminum gear against a mag one, but I would put my money on the mag gear dissolving fist, by a large margin |
