View original topic: Lube Engine Bay Fuel Hose To get Sleeves On? (5/16" ho

Hey all.

The new 5/16" hose is tight to protective sleeve. What is safe to use as lube to get sleeves on? Soap? Thought to use WD40 but maybe not?

I see new sleeves are available online, but want to button this job up so time is a consideration.

Is there a suitable substitute for the sleeve? Something with a slightly larger ID?

Thanks!

Neil.

From what I've read people suggest not putting the sleeves back on.

I've read some do, some don't.

I'm of the "do" camp. :) That said.....

IIRC, Tencent doesn't. But IIRC, he properly (of course) routes and supports the fuel hose. Yes. Pics here:

In reading up, have wondered about not using sleeves. If I didn't, I'd be curious to see if plastic brackets similar to those used in the Mk3, could be used.

Neil,

did a friend's fuel lines the other day and could not get sleeves on - they hung up on the slightly crinkled bends. Tried wire lube, gave up after 5 minutes :)

hey Alistair.

Ya that's the issue.

There must be generic sleeve material available at a given FLAPS. Like I can't imagine a given sleeve material would adversely affect fuel hose. But what material is suitable for engine heat, potential chemicals?

Or.... there must be a fuel hose support available from HELP.

But where to mount them on block?

Or.... just do as tencent does?

I've often used the wiring spiral wrap to cover & protect hoses as well as my wiring harnesses.
it's cheap and available at homedepot & or lowes.

Thanks Dan.

Maybe even use that corrugated wire cover stuff with a few cable straps?

I just did all the lines and billet fuel rails on mine a few weeks back, replaced the sleeves with new stuff from Van Cafe.

A little bit of water and it just slips right on. Very easy

KY or store-brand equivalent. Doesn't attack rubber and garners weird looks from people when they see it in your toolbox.
