Ok, as the title suggests I'm looking for info on how to and what to do to use a 1700 in my buggy. It's a Manx style.
Any info will help.
Thanks

1700 is the same form factor as a stock motor. I'm not sure I understand the question. Is there something specific that concerns you?

As Scott says, there would be no outwardly visible differences between a 1700cc engine and 1500 or 1600. Its simply a matter of boring the cylinders larger by a few mm and using larger pistons. Its all done internally.

From your earlier posts I think you plan on using dual Delorto DRLA 40s. That's something which might require you to specially select air cleaners or manifolds or linkages and relocating the coil, etc., which will avoid interfering with the body/linkage, depending on how much space you have.
There are plenty of threads in the archives on those type of issues. If you have questions, the more specific you are the better. |

Are you sure he's not referring to a Type 4 engine? The smallest of those were 1700 (1679 cc), right?

Sorry. Guess I wasn't clear. This is what happened. I'm building a 1600 with dual kadrons. Then I found a set of dellorto's which I couldn't refuse (40/44). Then, I came across a type 4 1700 with dual carbs ( rebuilt motor and new webers 40's) that was really cheap. Now I'm thinking of using that 1700. Guess I have some fabrication to do to make it look like an upright or leave front cooling shroud? I was hoping to find some additional.
Hope that was more clear |

Sure do it. OR don't. It's not very difficult to get the T4 engine working in a buggy, but it's a substantial amount of work to make it decent compared to using a common T1 engine. Everything from the clutch to cooling system, carbs/ manifolds, etc..has to be created/adapted/ or purchased.
To be honest? (and I've done it before) I would absolutely just buy a kit for that kind of install.

Simple addition - Bus 1700 Flywheel and clutch if using later model transmission. Use standard T4 Cooling system - there are others besides me here on forum that have installed T4 in a buggy -

This is an off-road exhaust you can use with a T-4 engine and a stock cooling system.
