Does anyone know where I can find info on this engine?
It is a type 1 serial number on the case under the oil housing is H448287.
I look in the tech help on VIN numbers but all the H engine numbers were "0". Is there any way to know if this is German, Brazilian etc? for starters.
Any info is appreciated. |

| Should be a country of origin near the part number cast into the engine case. As for the case ID number it could have been stamped into it by anybody at anytime. |

VW's H series were 7-digit numbers. I'm not sure what you have here. Any chance you can post a photo of the number?
Brazil and Mexican replacement blocks came without any numbers. But they'll have Mexio or Brazil cast into the bottom of the case on the sides.
Original cases from the mid-late 60s will look more like this down there:

| No, underneath you're only looking for a country name, the numbers found there are just part numbers for the castings and won't really tell you anything about the engine. |
