Hi everyone!
My name is Mike, i'm from Sevastopol, Ukraine and this is my '73 Super.



Repainted (temporary) wheels, made in China hubcups, new rubber... This is what made it look much better :lol: This is the only changes in exterior that i made now.
Body is rusty as always and hacked-someone welded the body to the chassis where the heater channels are, the pans are made of a plate steel.

The frame head is so rusty that i can put three fingers inside :lol:

The engine.
When i bought the car it was in "running" condition. The engine started and worked noisy but for me (total noob in aircooled VWs in that time) it looked OK. Oil lamp blinked on idle when engine became hot. Anyway, we had a good time in 2010, participating in "Autoexotica" show that was in my town, and we made a nice 500+km trip around Crimea.

After that in the end of 2010 started a problems, one after another. The first was the generator that gave up the ghost and was changed with a made-in-China alternator, after that it was overheating and crazy oil leak. Oil leak was strange because it doesn't leaked much when the engine was running and after it stops it leaked like a rain! Changing a crankshaft seal doesn't helped much. So i decided to overhaul an engine.

It was a shock for me when I learned that it was almost 1mm wear at crankshaft bearings, so after i stoped the engine the crankshaft fell down and oil leaked through the seal. :shock:
Now i know the source of noise!!



Now the engine has 1776 cylinders, Engle 110 cam and single port heads with Pict 34 carb :oops:

I can't find a set of DP heads around me, VW Bug is so rare here, no parts on a junkyards.[/url]

The goal of a build is a Germanlook, of course. I like to drive fast, no i'm not a racer or something, but just like when the car do what it was made for... Drive. There will be no "slamming", just lowering for the perfect steering.

First step on the way to Germanlooker is Recaro seats :lol: I love Recaros, i had them on my prev. toy- '89 Cabriolet for a 5 years.

Now i got a set of Recaros, installed one to the drivers side, too high...

I found that all glass on my 1303 has the VW sign, so it was installed in the factory or in the dealership some day. But what is strange is that the glass has different stamps. The windshield stamp says "Sigla", it is normal that 28 years old car has not original windshield.

Other glasses have "Duro-Glass D 85" stamps:


Also i have glasses with "Sekurit-1 D 89":


And one glass has "Delodour D-93" stamp:


I think that "D" with a number maybe are a date stamps? Why i have glasses from 4 manufacturers on my car, what you think?

Cars are made to be driven. So me with my wife and a son went to a "little" 1800km (forth and back) trip from my native town Sevastopol to Kiev to annual Ukrainian VW Fest. (I even made "isofix" mount for the child seat in the back).

We had a lot of fun! It was a first long run on my Bug.
These cars are so rare here in Ukraine, there was only two bugs on the Fest, mine and another one. Here are the couple of fotos from the fest: http://electrosila.info/archives/2668


On the back trip i revved too much and blowed an oil line to the external oil filter. Lost all oil, it's good that it was a gas station nearby. I fixed oil line, bought some oil and made it home. Good times.

What size is the engine? I see what looks like an aftermarket steel straight cut cam gear. That could be a source of noise as well.

The engine is 1776cm now. And it has a engle 110 cam with aftermarket gear. The noise is not too bad, but my buddy's stock 1200 sounds quiter.

Some news regarding my exhaust. I completely tired of my "fatboy" muffler and decided to make a quiet hide away exhaust. It's an old news to be honest - it was made before the long trip to Kiev. Guys made a new setup using a muffler from some 1.7 (?) Seat. The muffler have inlet and outlet pipe on one side and that's good. See the end result:

Finally my front adjustable struts arrived . I wanted a Topline ones but bought EMPI from JP Group, because shipping price from USA to Ukraine is making me cry :cry:

We decided to start lowering from the rear end. Turned 2 splines (inner) for the first time, were not satisfied and then turned it one more spline... And that was too much-the car now lies on a bumpstops :lol:




Now i want to return it one spline up, but it's a pain to disassemble and assemble it all every time. I want to buy adjustable spring plates, i need a new spring plates anyway because one of mine is welded (repaired?) for some reason. Where i can buy adjustable spring plates for Super Beetle? Please help!

Nothing special about the rear of a super. Any STD IRS adjustable plate will work.

Arrived from Cip1. Are they OK? I'm afraid that the torsion bar on my 1303 will be longer?
