WOW! Thanks....I will probably try more sandpaper, did not use 220 & 400, will have to find it. If that doesn't work I will ice pack and heat it up...Don't think I had to do all that with the other alum, but can't remember. Probably should just order the SCAT!

Thanks again!

you will find the OG crank is precision.
and the clone crap is not.
try 20 pulleys, some fit others don't. same crank.

some are crap. this will not be your first discovery of china crap.
as og parts get hard to find , more...

i like mine to fit pefect, nothing less. that way if i need to serivce my
pump or my AN-8 fullflow fittings i dont need to do as the video heres shows.

large HOOK and a SLAM HAMMER.
way to off the tins and use a vw puller, impossible to find.
a small gear puller might fit and work.
or , rope to pulley, rope to tree , push vw fast and bang off it comes
it may hit you and it will probably hurt bad.
or use another car to snatch it off.
or .....? some of the videos are very funny. but work....

no. the stock pulley works perfectly fine. if you want a high quality aftermarket pulley, get a gene berg. it isn't expensive, and it is top quality. i wouldn't bother with anything else.

Right now the Berg is not in my budget.....at least a month, don't want the bug to be down that long. Do not know where the stock pulley is, took it off 3-4 yrs ago. We will see.

If I do a Berg pulley which one? Achiever or Equalizer?

I had one on my car that was super tight. I took a steel wire wheel in a power drill and worked it back and forth a few times. It when on perfect. Don't slow down your drillmkeepmit running fast. Also make sure the wheel is larger then the pulley opening. As you push it threw it will close up and run smooth threw.

Sand everything up good with some 220 then spray it good with wd40 or something similar and have another go at it.

Gotta love "making" aftermarket parts fit.

its so you can fully experience the quality and precision of chinese manufacturing, not to mention the necksnapping performance increase the special "lightweight" pulley yields.

my empi went on with the same resistance that the stocker came off. just make sure the key is lined up.

Steel crank, and Aluminum pulleys have different CTE,
so sanding is going to make it loose when it gets hot, so it needs to be tight when cold.
But you guys are going to flame the crap out of me for this one.
I took the pulley inside turned on the HOT water and let it run in the sink while I took a piss, and got a beer.
Came back, wiped the pulley dry, and went outside and slid it right on the crank, put the bolt on, and torqued it per the book.
That was at least 13 years ago.

I use a heat gun with the same results.

I have a Berg steel pulley and they need some heat to R&R them. They should be tight.

it is not supposed to be an interference fit, but a slip fit.

but how you pound it on and off, only you care about that.
id never allow it. my HD pulley fits perfect , if it didnt , id have
my machine shop fit it.
mike the crank. first.
pounding it, with a sand seal tail or full flow kit, while not make your day
down the road. (points to consider too)

It is true that the Al pulley expands more than the crank. However, my current 30 year long experiment has proven there is no detrimental effect in having a "loose" pulley.

honing a pulley is art.
one guy does great. the other guy gets and egg.
ymmv

get the big steel pulley
and
cut down on those bad crank vib's , (large in 4cyl motors it is.)
and get free extra torque , while launching from red lights (more flywheel effect)

buy another stock pulley if you lost yours and you can't afford the berg. right here in the classifieds for as little as 5 bucks.

i have the achiever.

Finally had time to work on it today and got it on. 1st I sanded w/ 220 & 400, no luck. So I put it in the oven on 300 and put ice on the crank. Took it out of the oven w/ welding gloves and walked out to the car. Put it on then took 2 x4 and rubber mallet and tapped it on more. Letting it cool down now then will chg the oil, then put the belt back on and ck the valves then start it up.

how are you ever going to get it off?

When I went to try to put the previous one back on it would not go on either....so I must have used heat on it too! It will come off.
