Movin' on :) .....I bought this '58 last year and drove it the 2000 miles home. Its a great little car which ran well but was rusty. It had a 30 year old restoration of some sort but it was time for some major work. Once the car was home I put it up on the lift and realized it was a bigger job than anticipated. 200 hours and one winter later it is ready for spring. I'll get some better pics soon.

ps I'm lousy at taking photos as I go. There are lots of pics I should have taken with the new perimeters and such.

Looking good! What would one pay for a complete, running but rusty A such as that?

MoPor Thu May 17, 2012 12:37 pm

I'd rather not say but all you see these days is non-running projects for $30ish or older restorations and finished cars for high $40's and up. My car was a marginal driver when I bought it as I had to put some $$$ in it just to drive home. If you are in the market I would just do some networking and try and find a non-advertised private seller. Lots of people prefer to be passive sellers.

What part of the country did you buy it in? Not sure if you are aware, but you can post your photobucket images in this thread. This is convenient to those who follow your progress .

Thank you BTW for sharing your progress

Thanks. I'll figure out how to post pics here and get some new ones up this weekend. The pic above is from before I started the underside. There was a large crack/tear at the lower drivers door hinge that needed major repairs!

The car looks cool from this angle. Where did you get all the metal?

MoPor Fri May 18, 2012 10:41 am

I bought the metal from Restoration Design in Ontario Canada. The price was right. The floors and longs were pretty good although not perfect but nothing that couldn't be put right. I replaced the front struts, heater supports and the bottom of the front footwell area as well as the k member. I spent a bunch of time fab'ing and welding new metal into the rear heater tube areas as it was quite horrific. I butt welded in patches to all of the closing panels. I think at least half of the perimeter was replaced as well.

Love the lift. I am getting at that age when climbing underneath is getting to be a big pain in the neck...literally.

I'm there. I splurged for the hydraulic sliding bridge jack which makes a 4 post lift great for maintenance. Sometimes I still throw a little aluminum floor jack on the ramps to get one corner up in the air.

Your car is gorgeous :) Don't paint it!!!

Did you get the carbs figured out and it's back on the road??

MoPor Fri May 18, 2012 8:02 pm

I went by the shop and saw your car. Dark red is very nice! Carbs are better but some more work is still required. Some of the linkage is a little worn. I went for a long drive east of the city this afternoon. It was a great day as I took both my Porsche's out. I feel like a very lucky guy today.

Are your wheels 5.5" wide? What size tires are you running? Very cool!

Fritter Sat May 19, 2012 5:32 am

Car looks great, like a broken in pair of Levi's.

MoPor Sat May 19, 2012 6:44 am

Thanks guys. The wheels were chrome 5.5s and I painted them German wheel Silber. The tires are 185-65.
