View original topic: VW car show stuff

While I have a hot rodded VW, I do not hang with any guys that are really into the VW. One guy, but all custom stuff.
anyhow, I went to the Kansas City club car show today and it venver ceases to amaze me the junk on these cars. Looked like a collection of clear distributor caps, a reunion of the serpentine systems, more chrome tin and monza muffler systems than you can imagine.

all you need do is walk the aisles of one of these shows and you'll witness how EMPI can stay in business.

Some people like the bling.

At one show I watched a guy with a dunebuggy remove his virgin chrome exhause and put on a POS just so he could drive it onto his trailer because he didn't want the show chrome exhast to turn colors from the heat.

That's what they make winches for.

Once had a guy push his car onto the show field. When i told him all care are required to be driven on the field, he told me the engine is a dummy and has nothing inside.

Needless to say he didn't get a trophy.

F#$% trailer queens. Build it, drive it, enjoy it. I used to push cars around and polish them but I was only 8 years old.

I was at the Weston show, if that's which one you were referencing. There was a lot of junk, but there were a lot of cool cars there, too.
My car was packed full of crap and covered with smashed bugs from the 260+ mile drive. Right next to me was a guy that was wiping every rain drop off his spotless bug.
I like to see the ridiculous stuff and trailer queens, because those cars and the people that are proud of them is very entertaining to me. If everyone drove nice, stock, practical VWs, who would we make fun of? :D

It took me a while to get a handle on all of this show stuff. Me, we drive whatever we are showing, take about 15 minutes to wipe off the bugs and dust and then enjoy the show. Some folks spend a week getting the car ready and will probably trailer it. But that is what there are into and I am OK with it. Some folks have a nice collection of "props", such as vintage coolers, suitcases, etc that are cool and add the the overall look when they show - works for me.

But some folks over do the accesories - not my thing, but hey, they like it. And same goes for the builds. Some folks just don't have an eye for what looks right. Was just at a show last weekend - not a VW show, but a lot of hot rods and customs. Most were really nice, but then you have a 32 Ford highboy that was really sharp and well done, but has waaaaaay to small rear tires on it, or you see some really tacky murals on an otherwise super clean and smooth rod. Know of a customized street rod that was originally really sharp and tasteful. The owner decided to redo it and went waaaaaay over the top with the paint job and other changes that made it really look tacky. And I lie when he asks how I like what he did to it.....

It's how it is - and I don't get excited about any of it, except an awesome car. So - screw it - just enjoy the show......

yup, that's the one. My TQ didn't make it as I'm having some odds and ends fixed up.....and a bit of paint work done. Many of the "usual suspects" and some I hadn't seen. Don't care for the town and how the show lays out but nobody asked my opinion.

Funny, I thought Weston was an awesome little town! I had a great time...I'll be back for sure next year. 260+ miles one way for me.

your car was drawing alot of attention. i just like more of a park like setting than a street scene.

I always find humor in the "Theme" type car displays. You know, velvet ropes or chains to keep the crowds back... I also look forward to seeing the pouting fake children leaning up against the rear of the car. Priceless

at the first annual wounded worrier car show hear a brand new buggy won 1st in the vw class. it was brand spanken new and it was exspensive to sat the least. he waited for almost all cars to leave befor he pulled his trayler around & tried to load the bugy up.turbowed 2332 efi all from cb perf, running on 1 cylinder, poping & farting.and the proud new owner did not have a clue about any thing on it. possiably there should be a turn key clause for car shows before you can axcept a trophy. the show was awassom, and the trophys were spent arrtillery shells, big ones!!dam they were sweet!!!and that new pos got one, and no I didnt.
another carshow in pcola fl where only the club that put of the show got trophys, all rust buckets that were drug into the show by a member got a trophy. the 1st place in baja was a sawzall made vert, rusted out ,with a type 3 motor in the back,no belt,no exhaust, the motor hadent run in many years from the pinestraw on it. I go there for the swap meet& park in the parking lot, what a joke.and probably close to a hundrad vw,s there in the show. I just dont get it.and hope I never do.
