Ok guys, I am back to working on my kit car again and still dealing with the wiring. Again, the guy who previously wired this thing up baffles me beyond belief by complicating a very simple set up. So my question right now is this... When I rewire the charging system, do I absolutely have to include a charging light in the wiring? I have heard both ways, I don't see why it would be necessary if it were just "bypassed". Am I wrong.

You are wrong. Wire one in.

Bypassing the lamp will put a direct short (ground) from alternator into electrical system (12 volts) the moment you turn key "on"..... The results will be "you let the smoke out" of your wiring harness...

You will need tool to put smoke back in harness...

And just for your information....

Also if you have ALT light it will instantly tell you when you have thrown fan belt and lost all cooling....

You can simply not have an idiot light, there's nothing wrong with that- except the obvious, which is the charging (COOLING) system fails and you're trucking down the road oblivious.
But if I understand the question, then the answer is the system will work without a light if that's how you roll. Sometime later on VW engineered the charging system with the wire to the cluster from the alternator as a signal, so you needed that light to have the alt work.
