I had a decklid that was buckled from previous welding where the backside doubler joins the decklid. This created a 1/2 in gap between the body and decklid. After trying everything i mad a relief cut on the dides of the decklid and this took care of the problem nicely. Now however i am left with a 3/16 or so gap. what is the best way to weld this. I am thinking tack every 1/2 in then fill with weld..........Steve
I have a pic but could not figure out how to post it |

| I'd cut a wedge to fit the gap and limit the heat getting into the panel. warpage sux. |

| If I could figure out how to post the pic it would be great. the cut is on either side of the decklid, about 3 in. long. Would I better cutting additional metal out as opposed to trying to weld a 3/16 wide piece of metal |

| Tough to say without pics. I would probably just weld up without any filler piece. Just make tack welds that bridge the gap and stitch it all together. A piece of copper behind the gap would help but not necessary. If you try and fit a small filler strip it will just burn through on every tack. And cutting for a bigger strip? Now you've got twice as many seams to weld! |
