View original topic: Turn Signal Issue

I am tracking this down best I can but maybe someone will have had some experience with this and save me some time.....and sanity.

Here is the scoop: All lights were wired up Except the front headlights and turn signals. Everything worked beautifully.....reverse lights, parking lights, turn signals, and brake lights. I mounted my turn signals and and installed the headlights and now my turn signals don't blink!$#@%. Everything else works; headlights, parking lights just no blinkers. I'm thinking a ground maybe??? Any help is appreciated!

Once I sort this out I can finally hit the road after a 1.5 year resto project. I swear I'll post some photos then.

Thanks

Do your 4 way emergency lights work?

No they are not working either.

Maybe one of Captain Spalding's graphics will help. Turn signal wiring highlighted

my question is,
my turn signels work fine, but the light in my speedo only flashes once? can enyone help with this?

Ron Domeck Mon May 28, 2012 2:19 pm

For your light in the speedo the black flasher is bad, however there is a fix that you put a double terminal and connect the dash light wire to one of the other terminals but I can't remember what one. Do a search, don't need to be a Thing only, beetles had the same thing.

yes, speedo light flashes when 4 ways are on? lights work.

I'm not even going to attempt troubleshooting 3 different people on a single thread. OP (LewisC), check your connections using the diagram I previously posted. Might be a good idea for you other guys to do so also.

@ Lewis: It's a little weird that it's a front-rear problem vs. a left-right problem. My first inkling is that the front turn signals are wired wrong at T3 up by the headlights. You checked your fuses, right? Especially number 10. Check the ground at the relay, and at the firewall, and at the emergency flasher switch.

@ FV195 and Ron: the other terminal to connect the turn signal indicator light to is 49a, either on the flasher relay or at the emergency flasher switch.

@ 1 Thing: Looking forward to hearing what your mechanic has to say.

You must have a load on the blinkers for the flasher to work. If they are not hooked up and you want to hear or see the turn signal indicator light flash it will not. Try hooking 1 test light to either right or left and then it will complete the circuit. Sorry if I misread your statement and went down a wrong path.

Thanks to everyone for their help on this. I finally found the issue.....the emergency flasher switch was different than the one in the wiring diagrams and thus I had it incorrectly wired. Apparently there were two flasher switches that were used and one requires certain leads to be connected and one requires those same leads to be insulated and not used.

I said I would post some pics when I was done....so I'll post some today.

pretty sure that was the same issue with mine, still waiting on a new flasher but the aftermarket one that was put on isnt worth a S___!
