| Yeah! And such great surf. That's early in the public pot world. Back then people spun around in circles to get dizzy or bought 32 oz Cokes in a glass deposit-required bottle, got buzzed, and burped. 'Course drugs were creeping in. Nice classic sticks on Alohas. Is the stoner you? |

You know you're on an auto enthusiasts site when you call somebody "early" instead of "young". |

ron stoner was one of the premier surfing photographers of the 1960s...shooting primarily for surfer magazine when it mattered, his work was hugely influential and continues to resonate today...I'm fairly certain this is a self-portrait showing stoner in the passenger seat; if this was taken where I think it was, there is a good chance that they scored some very good waves
stoner mysteriously disappeared in the 70s...

It's been said that usually the first poster is as wrong as it gets. <<<----
Sheesh. The small case "stoner" threw me. I shoulda' known as I grew up knowing Brad Barrett who loved the guy and his work. In a bus trip along the east coast back then I used to see righteous surf spots with no one out as the water was freezing and it wasn't cool to wear a wetsuit.
Now I'm interested in the mystery. Where did you find the picture? Surfer magazine?
Somewhere there's a surf and bus thread. |

| This photo of Ron Stoner has been published in Surfer and Surfer's Journal over the years. Legend has it that he was involved a shooting of some sort and disappeared after that. |

"Legend has it that he was involved a shooting of some sort and disappeared after that."
I think you may be confusing him with legendary new york surfer ricky rasmussen, who travelled the world in 70s, surfing the world's best waves with the world's best surfers, and was shot and killed in a drug deal gone bad in NYC...some believe he never died and actually went into hiding due to a previous drug bust

as far as I know, stoner's story involves schizophrenia, LSD, and electro-shock therapy, but nothing involving a shooting... |
