If I change a 63 gearbox 1200 for a newer one say a 71 -73 1300 do I have to change the cable for something different . Seems to adjust a long way. Maybe just me I am new to this forms I usually figure it out but Mmmm stuck this time.

You are making a change. You may need to make a spacer up to take up the length of the cable. I ran into this when converting a auto stick bug to manual. I used a short piece of tubing and welded a washer on the end. On the other end of the tube I ground dentents on the end for the catches on the wingnut.

You may need to change your pressure plate to a late model unit. Throwout bearing too.

A new clutch cable is usually somewhere between $6 and $15 depending on where you buy it from. So instead of going through all the trouble of fabricating spacers, why not just measure your old cable, determine how much too long or short it is and then order one the size you need?

They come in a few different lengths and it certainly would be easier to use the right size cable for your application.

The other thing to make sure of is that you have the correct wing nut or double lock nuts for the arm on the transmission.

The early arm used a nut with a ball side and then a smaller head lock nut. The hole in the arm was round.

Latter they went to an arm that has more of a diamond shaped hole and that uses the wing nut.

You don't want to use the wing nut on the early round hole arm as it can't sit correctly on the seat of the round hole.

And you don't want to use the 2 lock nuts on the diamond hole arm because again the ball seat on the nut doesn't fit the arm.

Redjock, I have a 1972 IRS box in my '63 rag, converted back to swing. All I did was use the STOCK '63 cable from Wolfsburg West. The only change I needed to make was a couple more washers on the bowden tube.
