i bought an electronic ignition, and a new coil, new distributor cap and such.. so my car will hopefully run when it rains now.. but i threw the electronic ignition in there (very easy install, already set for the gap) so my points go in my toolbag.. anyways, i did not change the timing at all or anything, but i checked it anyways.. and the mark is at like 32 degrees all the time.. at idle, at high rpm, mid rpm.. it doesnt move.. is this bad?

A couple things to try... Remove the dist. cap, grab the rotor and twist it then let go, it should spring back on its own. [do you have a 009 dist.?] if it doesnt the shaft may be locked up..
You might try setting the timing at about 10 deg. at 1000 rpm and then run it up to see where and if your timming changes..... Just thinking........... |

You have no advance. See if the screw that held the condenser on is to long now, the some times screw in to far. Check out this page -> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/electronicing.htm

When you remove the condenser and put the screw back in you need to use a washer or the advance will not work just like vicsvw said.

i dont think its the screw, no difference with the screw in, or out.. and i put a couple little washers in there just in case.. i think a spring fell off of one of those weight thingys.. im gonna have to pull it apart and hope i dont screw anything up.. its raining outside.. u think its a bad time to pull the dizzy off?
