Can anybody tell me where the red wire that comes out of my wire loom in the engine compartment, which I believe is normally connected to an automatic transmission's AAR --- where does it's other end surface?
Is it under the dash, or possibly in the shifter tunnel?
I have a manual transmission, but I might like to make use of this wire if I knew where to find it in the front area of the car. |

Check out these wiring diagrams: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt3.php
Up through 1966 the Type 3 had 10 fuses. 1967 and later had 12 fuses. Fuse #1 starts on the left.
I'm not sure but I think VW introduced automatics in some of the models (T1 & T3 ?) in 1968.
Now I have a question for you, Square One. What does AAR mean? A Google search came up empty but those three letters gave me a flashback to one of these 8) -- http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=952.1&aid=443 |

Thanks, but you could have been even more specific. You should have included: right-hand column, topic 7.5  |

In my '71 the red wire was not attached to anything under the dash/fuse box, used it to hook up a tach. :) |

I used it for a tach, too. It was clipped with no connector under the left side of the dash. |
