I just bought a 1964 beetle sedan, and recently there is an orange light on the left side of the turn signal inside the speedometer, that turns on when I turn on the car and then turns off when the car is running what might this be? Also I know the blue light is the high beams, but what other lights are there and what do they indicate? Thanks, your fellow,

If you really want to get started right with your Volkswagen, you should read the rest of your Owner's Manual, cover to cover, before you start the car again. You will find it under the Technical pull-down menu at the top of this page.
In addition, you will need a Bentley Manual; and, if you have limited mechanical experience, you should read the chapter's in Muir's "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive" titled "How Works a Volkswagen," "How to Buy a Volkswagen," and "Maintainance."
If you did not do so before purchase, evaluate your engine now by checking the compression and endplay so you know where you are.
Good luck. These cars can be a lot of fun, but they are fifty years old and they do require the proper care, and that is often different from a typical American car of the same era! |

I don't know the numbers. They last longer than you might think, I haven't bought any in years, and the last time I did, I walked into a local VW shop and said, "Gimme some six-volt dash bulbs."
You can almost certainly find out pretty quickly by going to Wolfsburg West or CIP. |

N177221 is the VW number and what all the VW vendors use.
This is also what is listed in the Owner's Manuals.
6-volt
1.2 watt |

| The muir book is a must read and actually entertaining. You will love the book and love your vw more after you read it. If you need more technical depth, go for the bentley for your year car and engine. |

| The modern designation for the dash bulbs is a Ba9 base, 6 or 12v (as appropriate), usually 1.2 watts or thereabouts (wattage is not too critical 1 - 2 watts is fine). |
