Great Forum I appreciate all the information here. I am restoring a 56 Euro Sedan that is approaching the final fit and body work. I have a little experience with two stage urathane paints, but I have questions on the steps I should take.

I have blasted to bare metal and primed with a high grade sandable epoxy. My questions are:

Should I paint base and clear coat on the underside of the body, inside cabin, trunk, engine compartment, bottom of hoods and wrap the base and clear around the edges in a first stage, then mask off the interior, and shoot the rest of the body after I sand the blends? Or should I just shoot the entire body at one time?

After I have sanded the first coat of epoxy my next step is to shoot a high build primer. If I only use the high build primer on my second stage of painting on the visible areas and just seal over a good sanding on the first coat epoxy in the trunk and engine areas will it look like hell or would you recomend shooting the high build over the entire body, then sanding? Just sanded the first epoxy coat in the trunk area and not looking forward to another two hour gig in there. Not looking for show quality, but I have been fairly anal on my panel repairs. Maybe I am just getting tired of sanding. Please advise

I would love to know the tricks on the best way to shoot the vent area above the engine compartmemt, besides removing the sheet metal at the top of the engine compartment, then reinstall. Is there any tips out there? I can't seem to think of the best way to get paint inside the area and not have drips on the vent ribs!

Thanks for all your help in advance. I would have the paint professionaly done, but I have over spent on the interior and motor build (that is according to my wife).

Going on three years on the restore now and I am hoping to use this forum to help me get it done right the first time.

Thanks again,

Chris

I like to shoot as much of the interior paint as i can. Dash, engine compartment, trunk area and under the hood and decklid. Then i like to mask all that off so there will be less to paint, less dirt and so on. That way i can really concentrate on the outside areas and make sure those areas come out real nice. I like to paint the car all in pieces if i can that way all of it can get painted properly.

Well yes and underneath all fenders
Loo,,k on the final shoot you do not want to be shooting seems of sealer or primer- you want to be covering either all sealer or all primer
And mask everything underneath then set the fenders with washers on the car – hoods -and shoot them all at one time for perfect color match – then remove them for polishing on the tight corners close to the car
This will be show quality
