I've owned an 82mm Cast Porsche journal crank that I've been planning to use for a 2110. It was turned to .020 and wrapped up a few years ago. I located a set of Porsche rods and had them rebuilt so the set is ready to go.
I chose an Engle 120 because its' powerband peak is the same or close to the max rpm limits of the crank. I also am using a Bosch SVDA with a 5400 RPM rotor so over-revving will not be an issue.
Question is has anyone ever heard of or had a cast crank problem before? |

| My opinion......... Take your 82 cast crank, sell it, get what you can for it and buy a quality DPR crank. But don't mind my opinion (I'm a cast crank Haterrrr  ) you'll get plenty of guys here to tell you cast cranks are great, go right ahead and use it. |

| If you're going to put a 5400 rpm rotor in it, why not use a W110 to more closely match that rpm ceiling? Why have something that will rev to 6000 rpm if you're not going to use it? |

I've had a 78 cast crank engine and broke it at the drags. I've had two 69 cast crank engines both with less then 100 HP and neither have had any problems after hundreds of drag strip passes. RPM is not what is going to kill your cast crank. HP and torque will. You can turn it to 8000 RPM, you just can't use in an an engine that makes over 100 HP. I totally agree with darth, sell the cast crank and rods and get a new forged crank and H beam rods. The China junk today is still good to 200 HP without any problems.
Have you see the price of Porsche rod bearings? There is a reason nobody uses them any more. |
