View original topic: Pictures needed rear wheel arches split 52

Hi all, I am about to start restoring my 52 deluxe split.

The rear wheel arches, where the body attaches the chassis has been modified over the years, so I am not sure on what is original and what is not

Would extremely appreciate pictures of cars in original specification, so that I can figure out how to complete the restoration.

many thanks and regards from Spain

I guess you will find some pics in the gallery.
But beside that, they should just look as at the ´50 you have in your list.

Did that "thanks" had a little aftertaste?
There ARE pics in the gallery.

Thanks Usariemen, I just said thanks as I did not want to be controversial. If I am asking is because I have a doubt I can not solve by myself, otherwise I would not ask...

My 50 has lever shocks (I think they were used up to April 1951), as in your first picture, whilst the 52 should have 90mm telescopic shocks, so I believe the whole area where the body attaches to the chassis should be different. This is why I can not take my 50 as a proper reference. Sounds logic, I hope...

My 52 has been severely messed up as you can see in the pictures, so I can not figure out how it should look originally. Now thanks to Mika and to your second response (truly thanks for that :D) I have a very clear view on how the body should look like in that area, but can not see in any of the pictures you posted how the telescopic shocks attach to the body and to the chassis.

Hope I explained myself

The shocks do not attach to the body. They sit between the movable suspension and the stationary chassis.

Many thanks. I think I know what you mean. Have you got any pics?

Have a look at where the shock is currently attached in my 52, hence my whole confusion

On your '52 currently there is a vertical steel strap attached to the frame and ending up on body in the inner fender. It appears that the top of that is being used as your current shock mount on the inside of the inner fender. The bottom of that strap, where it forks and attaches to the frame just behind the stock body mount, appears to be the original top shock mount for very short shocks.

Indeed that was what I thought. Thanks for the clarification
