If anyone knows of any fabricators that work with metal tubing ( towbar builders, buggy builders, rollbar builders, etc) invite them to view this forum. this would be a helpful and possibly good project for someone to take on for some extra money.

hopefully prevent that from happening ( not my bus found in roo bar search, some kind of bay/split combination)

sadly ive moved on to the Vanagon model, so no roo's bars for those either.
but id love to see one made, could look pretty sweet.

I have a 74 Westy which does have the spare tire mount on the front. One flaw I discovered in that design is that the spare tire sticks out in front further than the bumper. I made this discovery in a basement parking lot when I was trying to get my bus close to the front wall of the parking space. Got a little too close and the tire hit, making a nice sized dent in the nose of my bus. So, I'd love something like the roo bar to protect both the nose of my bus and maybe even provide a little protection to the body in an accident.

Thats what i want to try an fix about the roo bars....A clean look that will match a busses character.

I had thoughts about making a roo bar for a bay that curved like the early splits in the front. Still trying to draw it up right where it looks good though....

Also just taking the og design and making it a lot cleaner looking.

Feel free to sketch up some designs and e-mail them to me if you have a crazy idea.

There was a guy on here maybe a year or more ago who made a gorgeous "roo bar" and was considering producing them.
He never did.

Perhaps he's lurking?

It seems there's a potential market.

The flaw to a roo bar is that it is only as strong as the frame to which it is mounted. Most are only attached to the bumper mounts, so any substantial impact will damage those mounts as well as whacking the front sheet metal with the roo bar itself.

Nice for style, but don't expect to vanquish an errant kangaroo or mule deer with one.

Please don't mean you are trying to replicate/duplicate the Hurst design. IMO those are not very attractive.

Here's a pic of my roobar I bought a few months back....The lower brackets bolt up where the bumper brackets bolt up and the lower front bolt of the beam....I could'nt tell you if this one will work on a later bus... But I can tell you I'm not too convince of it being very effective in a front end collision...this is tubing that had bent bent.....A Hurst bumper's brackets are angle Iron....alot stronger then pipe!...

I know of a guy who would love to build a jig and produce roo bars if I can show him there is a demand.

I am gonna have him fabricate one for me anyway, but I got too many more important things to cover first. BUT... If I can get him a dozen or so orders, I'll let him use my 71 to fit 'em up and get 'er done asap.

PM me and I'll work it out. If I can't get enough commitments, then I'll have him do this later when I can afford it solo but it might take a couple years.

I'll call him right now..

Wonderful..however, if you want orders you are going to need a sample design and a price. I'd be quite willing to order one but not before I know what it is going to look like and what it will cost me.

Hi All,
if anyone is serious about a Roo Bar, I am here in Australia where they were an accessory on some busses. My 77 Sopru Campmobile has one & I am happy to get it measured up for you. 2 piece items, with the top section removeable, leaveing a couple of little bars in the place, where a "Nudge" bar could be fabricated.

This is a pic of my camper.
Sorry it isn't a good shot, but I can get more if needed.

And another, with a Westfalia I have just bought. Similar set up.
