if anyone is serious about a Roo Bar, I am here in Australia where they were an accessory on some busses. My 77 Sopru Campmobile has one & I am happy to get it measured up for you. 2 piece items, with the top section removeable, leaveing a couple of little bars in the place, where a "Nudge" bar could be fabricated.
This is a pic of my camper.
Sorry it isn't a good shot, but I can get more if needed.
And another, with a Westfalia I have just bought. Similar set up.
Man you got some sweet looking busses. 8) Congrats. :)
Geno :D
I agree, very clean bus. It's nice to see something a little different. |

Thanks, Guys! I like them!!
Westy is a tidy up project, then for sale. Geuine RHD which is rare in Australia. Bus number 13 of the line for 73!!
The Blue on is called a "Sopru" camper, Australia camper. 78 year, 100% original. All OG paint & interior is immaculate. German built bus, with some cool M-plate codes. 2lt, great fun, it drives like new!

Hi Jeremy,
I can take one of my busses to a friend who is an engineer & get him to draw up a detailed plan/measurement spec if you like? He will of course know how to make it clear for anyone you are going to get to do it.
Just let me know,

| Sure. Anything will help. Most of all I need the tubing size. My current bender only does 1-1/4" |

Prototype #1
1-1/4"x .083 wall tubing. It the biggest I can do at this point. I am still working on a better way of attaching it underneath without effecting anthing. This is on my 70.

Hi Jeremy,
Looking good. I will get some shots today for you, of how it attaches underneath. Also, how it is sleeved, so the top section can be removed & if needed, a little "Nudge Bar" could be fabricated & used. That was my plan, anyway.
I note you have the horizontal section on the inside of the vertical mount. The genuine ones are mounted on the outside, then a bracket added for the spare wheel.

| Hell yea, i'm definitely interested in one if anybody starts to sell them. I like them better without the spare tire on the front... |

They came about, as an alternative to the "Westy" tyre rack. The rear spare wheel holder was jobviously not useable, due the the bed.
Also, we have a lot of freakin great Roo's over on the mainland (Like deer, but upright) & these were handy!! |

I kind of like this rack:

Sold by Bluebird Customs in England.
I removed the spare ture well on mine, too much room lost over my leisure battery. A roo bar with the spare mount would be nice.[/url] |

Nice start! The tubing size looks fine to me.
I agree that if possible the horizonatal bars should be on the outside vs inside. An optional spare mount should not be a big deal. Maybe tabs where I could reuse my stock Westy spare mount ?
Will that thing clear the bumper?
THANKS SO MUCH! There is a market for you out there. |

Hows that thing do in crash test studys against deer??
It looks good, I like the horizontal bars set behind the vertical bars but they do look real close to the nose in the picture. Is there anyway to make it a little stronger at the uprights? I know it is blasphemious but I really like the strength that the design of the hurst uprights provides. Perhaps there is a way of combining the design of the roo-bars using a similar design to the Hursts uprights.
something like this perhaps. just a thought.

actually, if someone had access to an aftermarked truck supply company and take some measurements, there might be something like this already made that you could simply create a few brackets for and mount up without having to fabricate anything:
just a thought. |

Anyone out there with a fabriaction shop? Can you make a Roo Bar like the original? Do you need a partner or a large order with CA$H to get this rolling in the right direction? Email me! I'm motivated to get this going now!
