Ive been working on my 60 beetle for about a year now. I figured I would start a thread for it. When I bought the car, I had to drive 9 hours to get it. I looked for several months but all the bugs that I found had really bad rust issues. I found my 60 in on craigslist. It's originally an Arizona car and the only time that it spent in the south was in a storage shed. When I bought it, it had been sitting for about 5 years.
Here's a shot from when I bought it and how it sits now

The interior was horrible when I got it. The seats looked lik the were from a ford taurs and the billet steering wheel was just cheesy. It also had some crazy stereo equipment and tint so dark that I could see out when backing up at night.

I bought some seat covers, which don't fit great. I'm planning on buying new foam for them and then putting the seat covers on. I also put in a carpet kit and a parcel tray. Here's how it looks now

I also made a homemade headliner for it because I couldn't afford to put a real one. It was all uncovered when I bought it and the old dried up glue and old headliner was blowing in the eyes when driving

Here's a shot of the uncovered floorboards. Before I put the carpet in, I painted the floors and then put down dynamat

I haven't done a whole lot to the engine yet. I rebuilt the card, changed the intake casting boots, points, plugs, wires, installed some jaycee pushrod tubes, got rid of the power pulling and put a stock one on it, installed all the engine tins, replaced the rear main and input shaft seal and just a few other little things

The wiring was redone by the previous owner and I hate it.lol. I'm going to order a harness soon and redo it.
I wanted to lower the car,( all of my previous old cars have been lowered. I had a slammed 53 chevy 4 door and a bagged 62 impala.) I lowered it by going down 2 splines in the back, then I sent my spring plates to Womack and had him notch and extend them. The I put some 165/45 tires on the front(which I'm going to replace soon with 145s and run ports) and I installed a 6" narrowed beam from Autowerks suspension.
Here's the beam

and the plates

I also Installed a new steering coupler and steering damper, caster shims and replaced the jam nut style splindle nuts with the clamp style. Here's a few shots of how it sits now

I know i'm leaving out a lot of things that i've done to it, but I just wanted to start a build thread to see what you guys think of it. I have a lot that I still want to do to it. I'm going to get rid of the quite pack because it hangs so low. I'm gonna get a stock exhaust setup for it. I'm going to change the front tires out, rewire it and I want to pull the engine and clean it up a little better. The engine is supposed to be rebuilt, so i'm probally not going to rebuild it until it starts giving me trouble. I also want to rebuild the brakes. It stops good now, but I want to put a dual circut master cylinder and I would feel better knowing that it's all new.

I just want to say 'thank you' for ditching that steering wheel and those seats.

One note... you're fuel filter looks like it's on backwards and you should consider moving it out of the engine compartment.

Lol. The fuel filter is no longer in the engine compartment. When I had my gas tank out to put in the beam, I put a new filter and new line under the tank.

Here's a couple of pics that were taken yesterday. One is from a local car show at the Hellen Keller Festival. After the show, Me and the guys from my club cruised down by the river to drink some beer and hang out.
