The cooling fan on the radiator stays on no matter what temperature, with or with out the key on. Disconnecting the plug on the termoswitch won't do anything.
What else.
The van is an '87 4 speed westy. |

| If the fan is on high, there is a relay behind the fusepanel mounted to the base of the A pillar. It is possible the relay has fused closed or filled with water. There is an external 50 amp fuse at the base of the relay that looks like a strip of aluminum. That would be how to identify the high speed relay. Other wise, drop the spare, and remove the two red wires on the fan. The fan should go off. Connect one at a time to determine which is keeping the fan on and trace that circuit. Factory air has a low speed relay that comes on with the a/c and a medium speed that comes on when the a/c head pressure hits 200 psi or something. |

This is usually caused by a failure of the A/C relay back in the air conditioning system wiring in the far rear driver side pillar.
It can also be caused by the medium or high speed fan relay in the dash.

| could a bad fan relay cause the fan motor fuse to blow or would that only be caused by a bad motor or a short somewhere? I'm guessing a bad relay will just prevent the fan from coming on but like I said, that is just a guess. |
