View original topic: Megasquirt Ignition Control

Hello

I am planning on installing MegaSquirt for fuel and spark control on my 70 Fastback. I am planning on trying a simple installation and to use the points to control the MS for spark.

Has anyone tried using the trigger points, rather than the ignition points to control the MS? It seems to me like this would solve problems with locking out the advance mechanism and might result in a cleaner signal.

Thanks

I'm doing the exact same setup with my 70 Notch! I didn't have any luck getting the ECU to work with points signal, and I'm not sure why. There's not a lot of information or support for this type of ignition. Even if you used the trigger points, you would still need to lock the advance and re-index the rotor on the distributor.

I'm currently running "fuel only", but I plan on installing a trigger wheel, and giving the the locked distributor another try. Without the points, it will be very easy to index the rotor. If it doesn't work well, I can always upgrade to a distributorless system.

Also, you may have to install a BIP373 module in the ECU to control the spark. The pre-assembled 3.57 that I bought didn't come with one, as single-coil control isn't that popular.

Here are my two posts about my project. Maybe you will find them useful:

Easy answer... Running off of points you can only run fuel.

Using a crank trigger you can run spark and fuel easily.

If you are looking for a trouble free signal then supersuks trigger wheel is the best option.

if you are serious about controlling the spark then you need more resolution than the stock trigger system gives. even with 36-1 missing tooth wheel there is only 10deg resolution and MS "guesses" in between.

To be honest I think this will save you a lot of headaches and eliminate noise.
Please post you progress as we are starting to build up a few good megasquirt threads in here. This will help others as well and further the MS movement

Speaking of the MS movement, I chatted it up with Mario from the Dub Shop, the MS3/extra upgrade with full sequential is in the works...giggity!

Is it possible to get MS3 3.57 build yourself kits ???? DIY only seems to have pre built and these are like $500+ .... bit rich for me considering the only significant extra feature is sequential injection. sequential injection is only really of use to reduce part throttle emissions so i don't really see the point but I do have plans for sequential ignition - but i can do that with MS2extra

so nick when r u gonna built a MS type 3 engine ? :P

Mario is building me a v3.00 MS3 for my turbo build muahahahahaha!!!!!

So to answer your question Will, I do not ever foresee a type 3 build for my notch, but maybe for a local. Type 4 is where it's at and I have way too many tasty parts collected right now
