have a 76 Westy and was thinking of adding a hitch to pull a popup...

Anyone have trailers that they use.

Bus has all camper equipment in it and feels heavy already.

Any comments

The limits are on this page of the owner's manual at the Bartnik site.

The bus is well built so as long as you don't abuse the tonque weight or tow too much you can go anyplace but since the engine is so underpowered the engine temps are going to go up under load.

I would install the usual gauges, take it easy up inclines and have fun.

Synthetic oil in the engine and trans. Switch to Fram HP-1 filter and add www.energyrelease.com to the lubricants. It'll help the motor and trans last longer and run cooler. I've been using it for 7 years now in my cars, mower, air compressor, and air tools. My dad runs it in his Polaris ATV's. You can get it a O'Reilly Auto Parts and NAPA if they are in your area.

I hate oil debates so all I'll say is changing the oil in the manual transmission isn't necessary IMHO..

Would love to build/find a cool travel trailer that was feather light...

Westfalia made a couple of cool designs. See the gallery. There's a modern one made with galvanized metal sides that aren't nearly so expensive if you can get one.

The is a company in Dallas TX that makes a real light camper. A friend of mine has one an he and his wife have put plenty of miles on one and they are very happy with it. www.casitatraveltrailer.com

Most small pop-ups are light enough to tow, and have less drag behind the bus. Electric brakes would be advised.
