I'm starting to tear down my 69 Beetle for a bodyoff. Took the fenders off first and found these on the rear right. So far the body seems to be pretty solid, but these are pitted rust hole close to the rear apron. I guess they are usual spots where you might find rust. How should I go about fixing this. They are small holes. Is there any way I can fill these by welding the holes shut? Or would I need to cut out the rust and add new metal.
I'm very new to body work and could use some help, any would be very much appreciated....
Is there sheet meal I can purchase of these areas pictured, If I have to replace?
Thanks one and all....... |

Do a search - there's plenty on the samba showing metal repairs.
Also did you try Wofsburg West - they have lots of reproductioin metal.
Klassic Fab is also starting to do replacement for beetles. Good Luck. |

| The surrounding metal is kind of thin. I would cut and patch. Don't think you'll be able to weld those holes shut. |

| Yeah you'd blow through the metal trying to weld it. Cut and patch is your best bet. Kudos to the previous owner for doing a decent job painting over it. It's still messed up, but at least he didn't let things get much worse. |

Yes thanks guy, I figured I would have to replace metal. I have a few other places to redo anyway. Getting all the sheet metal together first. Right now I'm taking the car apart. Future details to follow.
Thanks again...... |
