View original topic: 1971 Bay Window Bus Coil Wires?

Hello all!

I recently purchased my first Type 2 1971 bay window bus. The previous owner stripped it down and I have been working on getting it back to running condition. I have built a few bugs before and love the fact that this is the same engine. I however can not find the positive wire that goes to the coil. I looked at many different wiring diagrams and it shows a black wire coming from the ignition switch. Where does it come from in the engine bay?

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome!, the black wire is in the small harness that comes from the RF corner of the engine bay and leads across the top of the shroud, it's also got the oil pressure wire in it.

The wiring diagrams only show you how it was wired at the factory. That was 41 years and probably
many owners ago, so things could be very different on your bus. If you have a basic multimeter, you
could just turn on the ignition and check for voltage on any likely looking wires in the engine compartment.
