Im vacationing in So-Cal. I've been here 3 days n have visited LA, San Diego, and I'm staying in torrance. I haven't seen one split. I've seen tons of bays n Vanagons. Coming from San Antonio to the meca of vws I was hoping to see somebody cruzin an oval, split bus etc. :(

You don't see that many splits driving around anymore. If you do, they are usually on their way to or from an event. That being said, I'm sure there are hundreds in CA that are driven daily, it's just that it's a big state with millions of people.

With cooler temps near the coast your chances for a sighting will improve there.

I drive my '67 double cab everyday 8)

Should have stopped in Vegas, I know a few ovals that hit the road daily.

There are 2 ovals that are seen regularly south of San Jose....... 8)
Otherwise, I notice the same thing. I drive my '54 oval 225miles every week roundtrip to Davis. I rarely see any ACVW's. Used to see at least 2-3 every trip up until the last 2-3 years.

There are no ACVWs left in CA.. They've all been sold (or stolen), and shipped out of state, or out of the country.

You know coming from out of state you think it's going to be like candy land. It's like going on vacation to Wally world n it's closed :) I miss my dubs.

You missed a really nice show at Hemisfair Plaza, right at the base of the tower, last weekend.

Here's the thread with a few pics in case you get home sick:

I have to share GHIAFREAKS observation on acvw's on the road.
I've made two trips down the Pacific Coast hiway to
San Diego in my 15 window, from north of Seattle. On the first run
I saw three splits the entire trip. On the 2nd run saw none, only bays and vanagons. And just a few of those. On that first trip one of the splits I
did see I passed while heading north across the golden gate bridge
kinda neat.

Then couple years ago made a trip out to Montana saw none and this year made a trip in April out to Missouri and back and again saw only one vanagon the entire trip. Not one acvw of any kind the entire run.

Funny thing is how many folks I run into that want to take a photo of the bus when we stop some place and say they haven't seen one before.
And for some reason they always want to know what year it is. :D

I go from San Diego up to Anaheim about 3 times a week 90 mile trip approx each way, i always see at least one Bay and a few westys each time, the occasional split, always a bug 2 or 3 mostly fat chicks, it may be the mecca out here, but most are hardly daily drivers anymore, on a side note you will see more on the weekends though out on the road

Split screens are a dying breed in CA it seems - I'll still see bays (usually later ones) around SF a lot though.

That's one reason I'm so excited to get my '67 back on the road
