| Just wondering what size motor came with my van. It's a '65 panel. What carburetor and distributor came with it also. |

| Your engine case number should be 0-629795 on up but not with a letter prefix other than 0 which I don't know if that is a letter or a number (number I think). The carb would have been a 28 pict-1 and the distributor could have been a 111 905 205 N, 211 905 205 L, or 113 905 205 J. |

The 111 905 205 N is a Bosch unit. The 211 905 205 L and 113 905 205 J are Garbe-Lahmeyer distributors.
Good Bosch substitutes are 111 905 205 M and ZV/JU 4 R 3.
Bascially you are looking for Bosch distributors with the small round saucer shaped vacuum cans to work properly with a 28 PICT series carburetor. |

Thanks Clara
I have a distributor that has no # on it but the can has 211 905 271B on it. Wonder if that's ok? |

Are you going for a 100% bone stock motor, or just want to drive around?
The vast majority do not have the original motor in them, or the original combination of bits on the motor.
This is the motor currently in my early 66 kombi, which is dressed up mostly stock:
(it is not that clean anymore)
this is a pic in 8/65 owners manual:
There are a lot of ideas about distributors and what to use, particularly in combination with what carb, and on what size motor, etc.
What carb do you have. engine pic? |

Not to hijack this post but why isn't there a 67 bus manual listed (only 66 in the 67 section)?

An August 66 owners manual is for a 67. The 67 model year started August of 66, so five months of buses buildt in 1966 are 1967 model.

The Dec 66 owners manual is also for a 67 bus, it probably added the reverse lights. Often there was more than one printing in a year.
The Aug 67 owners manual is for a bay window:

| That distributor is the cast iron non Bosch unit made by Garbe Lahmeyer. It's a very good distributor and would have been correct for a 1965 bus engine. The part numbers 113 905 205 L or J as stated above. |
