i'm helping a friend sorting out problems on an american import split bus bought in belgium.
the bus has only the center torsion leafs (3 in each tube) in the front beam.
you can see inside the beam from one side to another (!).
i read that it is an oldschool method of lowering, but how much is it safe?
best/economical method is to buy good used leafs, since these are not available easily as spar, right? |

Correct, and not much safe.

Correct, use SPLIT ('55-'67) leaves. Bay and Split leaves are dimensionally the same, but VW gave them different part numbers for a reason  |

| maybe that the spare numbers are different because most split ones are welded? |

Early Bay are the same as Split, forgot about that  '55-'69 are the same (not welded '66-'69).
Swap yours out for a good full stack and you'll be good. |
