I have a buggy that was not running very well. All fingers pointed to vacuum leak, wouldn't idle, flat spots and I just could not find it. It also wouldn't run at less than 30 degrees advance at idle and I wasn't sure why that was. I eventually decided to do a rebuild. On dis-assembly I found a small hole in the center manifold and thought problem solved.

I wanted to keep the engine mostly stock. I replaced all the main, cam and connecting rod bearings, new pistons, barrels, heads, center manifold, end castings, carb (empi 34 pict-3), distributor (petronix mechanical advance with electronic ignition), petronix coil, petronix wires, new plugs and all new seals.

Nothing has changed. It still won't idle, it still has bad flat spots and little power and it still won't run at less than 30 degrees advance timing. Have I missed something? Is it possible that I still have a vacuum leak? What about the timing, I know that isn't healthy for the engine.

Do you have another distributor to try?

Where are you located?
Someone may have an extra to get you going.

I'm in Grenada, in the Caribbean.

It is a brand new distributor, do you think it's faulty or just the wrong one?

It may be bad. Ive seen a few that were actually missing pieces.
A few different brands too. I tend to have bad luck and get what quality control misses.
