I disagree, things are the way they are because we allow it. We have come to expect substandard. Substandard has become the new standard. There was a time in this country where men took pride in there work and there word was there bond. It's now all about the bottom line and quality is out the window.

The DTM Cooling Shroud uses the larger Type 4 oil cooler. I have the cooler but does anyone know where I can get the longer T4 studs. I found some at Gene Berg but they're $10 plus another 5-6 for shipping. Someone mentioned using threaded rod. Any idea what size?

I did some more fitting of parts for the CB EFI/ Turbo componets over the weekend. The FI connectors want clear the DTM shroud. This is the same with a dog house shroud from what I have read. I believe if I turn the injectors 90 degrees, facing the ends of the fuel rail it will work. The rails will have to be modified slightly as seen in the photos.

I will cut off the corners of the rail so the connector can be attached

Match porting my FI intake manifolds to my Tim's Stage 2 Heads.

I finished match porting my intake manifolds and lapped both ends to square them up and remove all tool and casting marks.

When I got home from work there was a box of -AN fittings from Summit Racing sitting by the front door. I spent an hour or so replacing the barb fittings with my new -AN fittings. I'm about done with my mock up so soon everything will be torn down for balancing. Then the bearings, pistons, heads and exhaust will be sent to Calico Coatings in North Carolina for various treatments.

Cool post. Keep it coming! I'm looking at doing the same thing. I look forward to seeing how it tunes and runs!

Hello,
I'm new to this site but not vw 's
Here's what I have found.

Make sure the fuel rails are clean ,mine had trash in them. I can see cleaning parts to your own satisfaction but trashy fuel rails on a fuel injection would not only give you a major headache but cb would not like to do tech support on finding out why it will not run correctly. Have not put mine together yet because I don't want to use there fuel rails.
I designed my own fuel rails where the fuel connections are in the back so you don't see fittings in the front. Will get some pics soon.

Nice job on prep work.

Well you have heard about the engine, but here is a little about the car. It's a Germanlook 1971 Super Beetle. Porsche wheels, brakes and suspension all around. The rear lid will be replaced with an RSR Whale Tail, on its way from V-Force in Australia. The addition of the whale tail is to make room for their intercooler. The Porsche Turbo Twist you see on the car are being replaced with Hartmann 3 piece wheels, 18X8.5 in the front, 18X9.5 in the rear.

Hartmann 3 piece wheels

Nankang NS-II tires

Dakota Digital Instruments and Momo GTR2 steering wheel.

Here is a picture of the whale tail on another car. I'm not a big fan of the whale tail, but this one brings a lot of fresh air into the engine compartment and gives me room for the intercooler.

Oh
By the way you need to check the regulator . At the end of the pipe thread there are burs that you can not see good because they anodized the aluminum so look carefully. I'm working on my install also. I installed a holly efi (auto tune type) on my truck and love it.

I brought the 3/4 cylinder head into work today to drill and tap for the CHT probe.

You should now disassemble that head and clean it.
I just re-did that mod and was surprised at how much fine aluminum dust was all over everything when I was done.

John,

Yes Sir, both heads will be disassembled, cleaned and sent to Calico Coatings for treatment.

I took everyone's advise and purchased an Engle TCS 20 Turbo Cam and Mahle forged pistons. My new aluminum case will be sent to Brothers for piston oil squirters.

Hey, question for all the turbo engine builders out there. Do I upgrade to 10mm case savers while my case is at Brother's? It's a new Auto Linea aluminum bubble to case. Next question, I have Tim's Stage 2 Heads, will these be okay as is or do they need some work?

mcmscott Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:45 am

A always use 10mm c/m studs in a turbo build. Boost is very addictive, you will turn it up, trust me

bcollum Thu Aug 09, 2012 8:47 am

What about the heads?

vince1 Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:05 am

Have the chamber cc'ed, they may need to be slightly enlarged for a turbo CR, and check springs for coil bind.
