Is there a certain way to run the rubber strip around a late bumper overrider? (i searched and came up with nothing on this).

I have a 74 with the large bumpers and im trying to find a picture of how the rubber strips attach to the overrider. There are 2 strips per overrrider and im not sure where to start the ends of the strips. Any help is appreciated like always.

If I understand your question correctly, the rubber (tape) black strip on the bumpers of my original 74 run under the overriders. I hope this photo helps.

Ahh thanks for the response but i was actually talking about the really thin rubber that you run around the actual overrider edge to protect the chrome when it sits on the bumper. Sorry i should have been clearer.

The strips should go all the way around the U shape cutout in the overrider. Put the strip wide edge out and hold in place with a few daps of contact adhesive (or super glue) while you fit the overriders. Cut any excess off.
It the strips are make for early overriders they may be too short. :?

Thanks Ian i will give that a shot. They are just a pain to wrap around the curves of the metal but im sure i just have to muscle it a bit more. I will also start them on the inside of the sides so they connect there and not at the top.

You might try warming the rubber by putting it in hot water--should be more flexible.

So i layed out the pieces of the overrider and im not sure how this attaches to the front bumper. Im starting to wonder if this is the right overrider for a ghia? Im not sure what that notch cut out in the middle is for, maybe the thick bumber strip?

There are a few parts there and no directions. If anyone could give me some tips it would be awesome. Here are the parts:

I also found another set of overriders that are larger but i think they are for the back. If anyone could let me know how this pieces together i would really appreciate the help.

I checked my original 74 KG (owned since new). Neither the front or rear overriders had the bent metal device that you show in the photo. The bolt on the overrider goes directly through the bumper on the number bracket with a washer and nut on the end. I don't know where you got the overriders in your photo--are they aftermarket? From the looks of the shape of the bent metal object, I would guess it fits on the inside of the number, but my car doesn't have those.

I got them from my mechanic who has had vw stuff since the 60s. I dont have the box on me right now but ill check - it was from germany and was blue and said "set of 4 overriders". When i can get to them i will check the overriders too for markings. I was thinking that notch has to be for the thick rubber bumper strip.

If you look carefully at my Ghia photo, the rubber bumper strip is just a thin black tape, not a real rubber bumper. That is the way she came from the factory. Could the overriders you have be for a beetle which, if I remember correctly, did have a rubber bumper strip?

I think your right Pat, i did have a few beetle parts that came with the car and i used to have a thick rubber bumper strip but in the box of parts and that was for a beetle. Thats gotta be it - i think these are superbeetle overriders. Im going to see if i can still mount them and if not then ill sell them.

Heres a pic of my 72's front bumper.

The overriders on it don't have that notch cut in the middle. The rubber strip, atleast whats left of mine, are flat and wouldn't require a notch to clear them.
Redo'ing my front bumper is on my ever growing To-do list :D

I put the rubber strips around after heating them up (great idea Pat) and that worked, then i tried to put the overrider on - wont fit. Def for a beetle, i checked the box and it says it. I thought they might fit the ghia but they dont. Oh well, worth a try - off to the classifieds haha. Thanks everyone.
