I have a complete set of main bearings for my 912 engine...except the big flywheel end bearing is water damaged beyond recognition. Are there any other engines out there that used that same size bearing that I can buy a set of bearings for cheaper and throw the rest of the bearings in the trash?

You can order individual main bearings at the Porsche dealership. What size do you need?

Standard case .50 mm crank for a '69 912 engine

If you are willing to post your real name, I will be happy to provide you with the part # for the single bearing. Sorry, but I feel more comfortable communicating that way :)

Nice to make your acquaintance, Tony.

If that part is not available, you can try an align bore bearing and have the OD turned down to std.

Let me know what Porsche says :)

The Porsche dealer in Melbourne (where I am currently at) says $280AU..order monday and have it friday 200 and something in stock. I will have to check the USA during normal business hours. thanks for the number.

Did you ever find this bearing?

myb356 Wed Sep 19, 2012 2:15 pm

Yep, I had my father buy it in the USA for $180 and then it was put in a suitcase and transported to me. I finally received it this week. Have not measured it, but it looks like a good thing, thanks.

That sounds great, Tony. Did it come in a PORSCHE box?

myb356 Sat Sep 22, 2012 2:30 pm

Yes..it is in a Porsche box. According to the sticker it is a rod bearing...I don't think so. I know Porsche parts are expensive, but I am glad that they have stuff for when you are in need. I wish VW would give half the support for their older cars as Porsche does. It is amazing what Porsche will sell you for their older models.
