The time has come for a Matra thread. There's quite a few treads that deal with individual tools, so for the sake of organization and ease, lets put it all in one spot.

For those who haven't seen it yet here's a list of the tools.
Lets make it our goal to have at least one photo of every tool to go with every description, not just the sounderwerkzeuge folder page
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/tools1.php

I'll start things off

Stuff I use at work
313 support clamp
307 fixture (mounts to back of motor)
307a flywheel lock
207 piston pin pilot drift
165 socket for cylinder head nuts
161a Circlip pliers
159 Oil Pressure Switch Wrench

And here's my Matra tool box. It once belonged to my grandfather when he worked for Volkswagen in the 50's

I'll add more when i get the change, till then show us your collections :D

I like your 161a the best. Been looking for one for a couple years now. Very nice engine stand too. I'm waiting for my old german friend to 'kick the bucket' as he says. it's the only way I'll get his old stand and trolley with the seat that he sat his but on for 40 years ;)

Thanks. Does anyone where the replaceable tips for those could be bought?

Had this box for a while, just sold it.

The box has the following stenciled on it:

VERS. NR. 5180-12-141-1427
WERKZEUGSATZ, VERBRENNUNGSMOTOR-
INSTANDSETZUNG ERH.-STUFE 3
MIT KASTEN
VW- INDUSTRIEMOTOR TYPE 122

The following tools are inside and still covered in cosmoline. All are MATRA unless otherwise noted as Peiseler.

vw1266 - 13mm fuel pump wrench
vw126a - 14mm fuel pump wrench
unmarked mystery tool (see below)
vw171 - cam follower holders (unopened)
vw204b - crankshaft oil seal installing tool
vw109 - oil cooler wrench
vw 328b (peiseler) - 36hp fuel pump preload tool
vw219 clutch centering tool / drift
vw201 - oil pump puller
vw215b - flywheel lock
vw 328d (peiseler) - 40hp fuel pump preload tool
vw112/3 - breaker bar
vw112/2 - flywheel socket guide plate
vw112/1a - 36mm flywheel socket

here's a close-up of the "mystery tool". Anybody know what it is?

Dan, that box was marked for industrial motor and the fixture might had been for a PTO in some way...cool kit nonetheless.

A big "thank you" to DanM for the above NATO crate of Matra tools, I am the delighted new owner. They arrived this morning and I've already drooled all over the tools and the case! I actually already owned 9 of the 14 tools in this case, but these NOS tools in the original NATO crate were too nice to pass up. Dan did an awesome job of padding and packing everything up for a safe trip to my door. Thanks again Dan! Can't wait for the day that my 1956 Ziegler Fire Brigade water pump powered by a 1956 VW Industrial engine needs some work, and I get to scuff up the cosmoline on those tools!

Again, does anyone have any idea what that odd "mystery" tool is for?

Oh! I have a Matra #135 tool, looks like a pliers that would spread something apart. Does anyone have an old catalog that might explain the applications of a Matra #135 ??? Thanks! I'll try later to load up a photo to show the tool...

Ah! Here is a thread with photos of it I started a while back...

I would like to know what this is for. It's some kind of jig.

Fishynos72 Sat Sep 15, 2012 5:57 pm

Seeing as the number for the jig is so high, it's more likely for a water cooled car. Or its some strange tool used for factory reconditioning or something like that. If its recent enough you can contact Matra and they can tell you what its for.

I've searched for Matra's contact information but haven't found anything. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide.
