arent fridges ac? should have an inverter between the battery and frige, no? should have the ac plug coming out of the back of the fridge too, try it on ac first until you get it working. should hear a minor hum from the fan/pump. i hate electrical and the whole fridge crap, so i could be terribly wrong. take it to your local RV shop if you can't figure it out. sometimes they dont mind hooking up the VW boys for cheap, at least in my experiences. at least they might have the answers for you. Cheers!

Drew, what year is your bus? Is it a Westfalia or something else?
A little more info would be helpful!

Drew, I noticed down further that you posted you have a 77 Westy.
If you have the Dometic fridge, it is an ammonia system. It has no moving parts. It has a 12v DC ONLY heater element on the end in the rear compartment. It takes approximately 4.5 amps constant to heat the ammonia. It will run a fully charged battery flat in about six hours parked. The fridge is designed to work on 120v AC thru the converter under the rear seat when parked. You only use the aux battery when you are driving to maintain the cold temp. Then you plug into a land line when you park. That fridge came with two ice cube trays when new. And yes, it WILL make ice cubes but it takes about 6 hours.

A few years back I posted a test procedure for the panel that controls the fridge. It is on the www.type2.com website in the library.

Drew, hooking up a dual battery system is a complicated and grueling task. It takes more than just an extra battery, you will need a regulator and many small elec parts. It will also take rewiring the voltage regulator. I wouldn't suggest it if you aren't knowledgable on car electronics. I have just a basic ice box in my 69 rivieria camper. It melts a block of ice in about 72hrs, and keeps everything in there nice and cool.

Hi guys..
Well i got the fridge working in the shed. At least i got something accomplished during the storm. So you all scared me with the wiring situation of the refridge. I have the cooler actually in the bus now, so i think i might stick with that. But even with the aux battery connected properly if i leave the fridge on when the bus is off will it drain bother batterys? This is important cause i plan or doing alot of surf/show trips this winter and i dont wanna keep food cold only to not be able to start in the morning. I really dont like the ice box cause it doesnt drain all the way and my food always gets really wet. Thanks again. I am also lookin to install a 69-73 bumper onto my 77, will this work? I really want those foot steps. haha
