| I was driving around today in my 41,000og mile 74 standard beetle and out of the blue the 10 thousand number started going up at the same time, so now after leaving my driveway with 41,490 miles, i came back home with 51,500 miles after driving 10 miles in a commute to school and back. This is very confusing. |

my odometer doesn't even work. how do you fix it?
is it related to the speedo cable? i have to replace that too since it doesn't work either lol. |

| Odometer is directly driven off the cable via a small gear. When the gear splits, the odometer stops. Speedo is indirectly driven off the cable via a spinning magnet, this rarely stops working if the cable is spinning. |

| Actually if the speedo and the odo are both dead chances are the cable is the problem. Pop the cable off the speedo and spin the wheel if the cable turns it it ok. Spin the input of the speedo to check the speedo/odo |

I fixed my plastic gear with a drop of epoxy 2 component glue. Has lasted 35000 miles.

Just referring to the original post here. Probably will discover that replacing the speedo cable doesn't rectify all issues... |
