Hey, my two litre toasted a valve spring on #3 cylinder a couple days ago. Should I be suspicious of the rest of my valve train or not stress it? I'm going to check that lifter and maybe replace that pushrod, it got a little tweaked at the end. Later, -K-

Hey Y'all, I'm just replying to my own post to generate interest or perhaps even a response. It's worked before, so what the heck. I'm not trying to be pushy, or insistant, "oh, no" perish the thought. :)
PS Maybe you could "hook a brother up" and check out the wheel adapter post as well. Later, -K-

I replaced a broken spring with the engine still in by using a valve spring compressor tool that I got at Sears. The tool compressed the spring while I held it over the valve stem and it allowed room to install the retainer and locks. Nothing else appeared damaged so I just put everything back together. I have seen the owner of the bus several times since and he never mentioned any problems. Obviously if a rocker, push rod, or lifter is damaged then it needs to be replaced, but I don't think anything else really affects or causes a broken spring. They have a mind of their own. Good luck.
