| 78 convertible - trying to remove the frame of the wing window. All glass is out, regulater is still in, but not bolted in. Everything seems loose, but the frame will not pull out. Seems as the though the part of the fram that recieves two bolts (front door jam) is too wide to come out through the window opening in the door. Like my title said PLEASE HELP |

It's hard to say for sure from your description, but I'll give it a whirl...
First, make sure both inner and outer scrapers are removed, along with the rubber at the end of the door top away from the hinge end.
Then, remove the mounting screws, being sure to get both bolts on the front edge of the door. They are only exposed when you open the door, and may be covered by plastic screw plugs, and are about 2" and 3" down from the front top of the door. There are two similar bolts at the other end of the door as well.
Finally you need to screw in the centering adjustment screw. It is the large slotted screw with the welded on washer about 2/3 of the way down the window frame below the vent wing.
It is designed to push against the inner door frame, and acts to adjust the angle of the window mechanism for proper alignment with the top seal and front to back window seal.
By screwing it in, you should get enough clearance and be able to pull the window assembly up and out of the door. |

| Sorry if my description was off ... I think I have done what you say. The mounting screws on the front edge of the door have been removed. The centering adjustment screw - is actually a slotted screw through a nut assembly that screws into a plastic busshing on the lower end of the frame I am trying to pull out. It too has been removed. The whole assembly seems to be moving freely. The part of the frame that has the two mounting screws is what seems to be the problem. That part of the frame is rubbing up againts the foward most part of of the channel in which the scrapers and windows were ---- the foward most part of the base of the triangle that makes the wing window. |

Ah, yes, there is a stud below the vent wing which is held onto a welded metal flange with a nut approx. 6" below the center of the vent wing.
There is a slot in the door metal to access this nut.
The metal flange is horizontal, and welded between the inner and outer door skins.
It is a real bear sometimes to get that nut loose, due to the effects of water over the years. Lube it up with Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster, and give it a shot.
Sorry, I forgot about this. |

Also, I'm going from memory, here.
My description may be a little off, but there is a nut or bolt to remove where I described it. Anyone with a more recent recollection than mine about this? |

| Thank you j.pickens!!! There was not a bolt but a screw hidden under the rubber that fastened to the horizontal metal plate between the two skins you talked about. Bingo - take out that screw out sliides the wing window frame |

YEAH BABY!
Get that sucker out of there.
Are you re-chroming the frame, or prepping for paint, or what? |

To put a picture in your post...
First, get your picture on a page all by itself. For example, if you upload it to the Samba gallery, you must keep clicking on the picture until it is the only thing left on the page. Then copy the address (it should end in .jpg). In your post it should look like this for the picture to post:
Good luck! |

| That is how it looked when I bought it for $1800. I have put about another $400. All fenders and hood and back hatch are stripped - did this my self- and at painters getting sanded primered, and the rest of the car is also almost stripped - again my work. Hoping to have the car at the painter by 8/30. The rubber around the doors is fairly old and I am not having the best luck not ruining some of it. I have shopped for door kits but they are expensive!!! Any advice on getting a better price some where besides CIP1 or west coast metric? |

| I got my rubber set from CIP1 when, like now, they had an across the board discount and free shipping. Saved me about 20% off list. The whole set was just under $500, including the chrome outer scrapers. |
