View original topic: Ford starter relay question

My 70 bus has a ford starter relay wired into the circuit to relieve a hot start problem that the previous owner had(I assume). Since I have to change the starter soon anyway I was thinking about just putting the starter wiring back to stock and run a new # 12 wire to the ignition switch.
Is their another reason to keep the ford relay, other than the hot start problem caused by high resistance in the old solenoid wire?.......................Thanks

leave it. a relay takes a potentially low voltage signal from your ignition switch and brings battery power to the solenoid in it's place while starting. you save the distance. a new starter will not eliminate old wiring.

if it bugs you that it's a ford and are feeling somewhat euro, put a bosch relay in. it does the same thing. work for nothing.

Unless you were restoring something as Stock, I would leave it. :)

I think the installation of the ford relay to cure some sort of starter problem might have been something I read about in the Muir book.
