:) :) Will that be in the front parking lot or are they going to allow you inside?

Having a Govmt connection some yrs back got a VIP tour of the assembly line. Saw the bugs being assembled.....Rabbits etc....and the stamping presses punching out hoods and fenders etc. From the chassis in the front door to the final dyno at the rear door to the parking lot.

I am probably the only person here on Samba that can say that.......with a possible exception of a future NEW VW dealer.

Don't they have tours like other VW factories??

:) Have never visited any other VW plant so do not know what their policy would be as to any tour.

I/we were told at the front reception desk that they did not give any public tours.

The woman I was with demanded to speak with someone of authority who also said they did not give public tours. She pulled out her Govmt ID and said that I was a visiting VW specialist from the US and would really enjoy seeing the assembly line etc.

We were told to return later that morning and accompany a group of engineering students and their teacher during a allotted tour.

Had a late breakfast early lunch and returned two hrs later during the assembly line lunch break while things were at a standstill.

Was told that for a while they had Robots on the assembly line but removed them in order to put more people to work.

The stamping presses had two separate hand controls at the same time so that there would be no chance of loosing a hand. I counted over 70 presses in one room....all with the same German name on them,

(That woman later became my wife)

Hello again:

It will be held in the so called Centro Técnico, which is the POS at the plant. It has a huge parking lot and the event will feature original air cooled VW up to 73, plus Things, Ultimas Ediciones and special interet cars....as for the visit to the plant, there are scheduled visits to the production lines, like in every other VW factory.

We will have original Kommandeurwagen and Kübelwagen, Splits, Ovals, Karmann Ghia, etc...

Here a video of the previous Treffen...

Greetings.

Heini

Also, I would like to share this with you all:

Back in 2003 I had the chance to bring my videocamera into the plant (which is really not so often allowed) and take the las official day of production of the Bettle....it was not the presentation of the Ultima Edición, but the farewell party of the production line two months later, the assembly (totally by hand) of the Bettle, etc. I hope you enjoy it.

It is something else....

See you at the Treffen in Puebla...

Heini
