Found a really straight, rust free, 63 notch... has long slim armrests, "bucket" rear seat. But has no hood,, front fenders, busted windshield, and no engine. Good glass on sides and back (pop outs) though.
What is the best donor car to resurrect it.... a 68 fasty? The major body change occurred in 69, right???? Like to go with 4 lug and discs if possible, so that means 68 is maybe the best donor.... Comments?
I've had many T1s and T2s and am new to T3s? Need Input!!!
Oh yeah....it's free!!!!!
I like "Notches" |

| I would think a pre 67 squareback or fastback would be the best choice for the body parts you need especially for the fenders with the correct turn signals. |

| well, as far as i know, 64 and later had trim mouldings on the fenders and doors that 63 and earlier did not. i'm sure there are other differences , but that is the one that would seem to determine the fenders you'd wanna look for. hood as well i think.. trim issues. |

The front fenders can work but the doors need work to fit. I cannot remember in detail but I do remember the door hinges are different between 63 and 67. I think the split was 66 or 67, just be aware. The rear fenders will not work from a square or fastback on a notch without major sugery. As for the rest of it, door windows, hood, suspention, windshield, ect.... good to go.
As for the trim, I don't know about you but I never worried about it .... I can drill a hole where needed. ahhuhah I got skills :^o |

'66 and up have the 4-lug disc brakes, if that's what you want.
The hood and fenders should fit but the doors won't. You'll have to fill the gas door if you use a '68 passenger front fender. |

Yeah, the early doors used 3 bolt door hinges, while the later doors used 2 bolt hinges. Tom Hanson has some details on the adapter hinges, go to; http://home.att.net/~drsowatt/index.html and check out his 64 Notch. This car is beautiful, and you can ask him about the adapter hinges so you can use the late doors on an early car. Your other option is to use up to 65 doors as both Square and Notch still had 3 bolt hinges on them, after 65, only Notches used the 3 bolt hinges.
The big body change was actually in 70, as that was the first year for the big trunk, flat hood style, with big armco bumpers. If you'relooking for a donor car, I'd look for anything up to 69 as most of the parts will interchange, but a 65 or earlier car will give you most of the correct body and interior parts. I hope this helps. |

Everett!!!!
Zounds. Whatta knowledge base!!!!! I am astounded, but I guess not really surprised, at the corporate knowledge in this group. Truly impressive!!!!!
Bobnotch...
Ya beat me to the punch on the doors. That is a nasty little detail that could jump right out and bite ya. Thanks man!!!! 'Jeeze louise" a 2.7 liter type IV... Amazing. What an amzing piece of work on that notch. Talk about "raising the bar".
Towed the notch out of the apple tree and it don't look too bad. Looks pretty bad from a distance but up close it is pretty rust free and straight. Will post pix.
Thanks again

Hey!!! Leave fastbacks out of this...
I would have never sold my 66 sunroof fasty if I had know that it was gonna get cut to "restore" a boring plentifull notchback.
Notcbacks are the "rare" car yet they already outnumber fastys. Use a squareback if your gonna cut something.
have a good day :) |
